Sand for Horses
Hello. My name is Ralph and I'm an Architect and actually, we are going to build a Reining Arena, do you know if the horses need a special sand for footing? |

Re: Sand for Horses
Ralph, Yes they doooooooooo! You either need a solid hard packed clay or limestone type base. If you go with a limestone base then a sand clay mixture approx 3 inches deep. The clay will adhear to the limstone helping create a buffer zone between the limestone and the sand. A clay base can go with a regular sand. Some clay in that sand will not hurt. If you really want to know what to do with the sands and clays available in your area and do a top notch job go to http://www.absoluteinnovations.net/equine/dragmaster.asp or if that does not work go to www.kisermfg.com this person will set you up right.
