sucking back in the turn around
I've had my colt at a trainer's now for a month. He's doing good but he is sucking back in his turnaround. We been working on getting him to go in a small circle moving his shoulders over and crossing over in cadence. He wants to lock down and spin losing his forward momentum and then suck back. He said he cant figure out how to fix it. I can't find in the videos how to fix it just that you mention it. |

Re: sucking back in the turn around
John, You have to not let the colt suck back. The moment the colt went to suck back too much you would have to put both legs on and walk the colt forward into your hands. Once the colt is forward and soft into your hand you can enter the turn agian. But as you enter if the colt sucks back you have to move back forward. If ou can get the colt so you can push the colt forward and keep spinning and make that adjustment 4 to 6 times per spin revoloution you will have your colt fixed from sucking back. It is important to catch the problem right as or before he starts to suck back. You have to watch as well the quicker you are able to make the adjustment you will have to be aware of what his inside front leg is doing. When you push the colt forward you will have to brint the inside front leg back with you when you come back into the spin. If that leg is going forward he will be getting in his own way. Dean Brown |
