Regumate for stallions
I was recently told that I should put my young stud colt on regumate because it will help him focus more on me instead of breeding. Have you or anyone else tried this before? I been reading on the web and everything I read so far says it works great on young stallions but you dont get the same results with an older one. My guy isn't so bad that we can't anything done. I have seen alot worse. I'm sure a secluded indoor would help with the training but it doesn't expose them to other horses to address the social behavior problems you may encounter at a show. I dropped off at a local pro trainer a few weeks ago. He was quite rambuntious at first but has settled in nicely now and hasn't been banished to the bad stallion barn yet. The trainer says he is learning and shows alot natural talent wich means he wants to go slower and not leave any holes. I keep hearing from him that he's a nice horse but would make an even nicer gelding and more fun to ride. |

John, This may help. It is not going to hurt anything for you to try it. But to have him on it for long long periods of time I have heard of fertility problems being caused from it but I do not know or remember if my source was reliable so do not take my word for it. As far as gelding him. From a business point of view. Your horse I am pretty certain would be worth more as a gelding then a stud. He would be a more pleasure to ride and be around. From a personal point of view you need to do what you want to do. Be honest with yourself and realistically is this colt going to be a sire? Dean Brown |
