teaching the slide..?
Hi again! Alright, so before I was asking how to teach my young horse to spin faster, and now I'm wondering how you actually "teach" the sliding stop. Throughout his training (and I use this word loosely seeing that I'm 19 and not a professional trainer..haha), I've got him stopping very easily..and to my "whoa" command with almost no bit pressure at all. He seems to stop very well on his hind end and has a very abrupt stop, which I'm hoping will make it easier to teach him to slide..he doesn't have sliders on his hind feet (I didn't want to waste the money putting them on until I knew they'd be worthwhile). So I guess my question is, (once I get the sliders on) how do you teach the sliding stop? Thanks!! Britt |

Re: teaching the slide..?
Britt, I would love to answer your question if I wanted to type a 10 page letter. More specific problems regarding a problem I can answer but to go through the whole step by step process would take a little too long. Put on some sliders and take a clinic or buy my video or buy someone elses video and take it from there. Very simple version is go straight and say whoa! and if the horse does not stop back him up and try again. Dean Brown |

Re: teaching the slide..?
Haha...yeah I thought about it after I posted that that question would probably call for a pretty lengthy answer..sorry about that. I think I am going to just put some beginner sliders on and see what happens..I guess if there's a lot of problems (which I don't think there will be) then I can always have them taken back off. Thanks for the help though! Britt |
