and....whoa
I noticed tonight my colt has gotten used to me saying "and" before I say "whoa" He is now stopping at the word and however I really want him stopping at whoa as where I am trying to time it with body his body position. I started tonight trying to correct myself and decided to see if he is really stopping on my seat position and the word whoa. I decided to take his bridle off and just ride him around the pasture with nothing on. Sure enough I asked him lope and said the magic word and he stopped. It wasn't as hard as if he had a bit in but it was a stop with good form and collected. So how much pressure should you apply to the bit at teh stop? Some horses will fall on their face if you dont hold them. Personally I like to see a horse stop really collected on a loose rein. I had read somewhere that if you say whoa and apply steady masaging pressure until they stop and release quickly that it works pretty good. |

I do not bump on my horses face in the stop. You need to apply the amount of pressure needed to teach him some more then others. Some you will never have to pull on but you need the bridle to disiplne them. Whatch the body cues. YOu get more then two cues in there it is very difficult to keep them all timed togeather cause if the cues do not all come at the same time the horse is going to have trubles cause you will throw the horses timing off is you miss time a cue.
