more on sliding stops
hi dean, my mare can stop pretty good, she is straight and she slides,into the fence we do pretty good. however i am not helping her when i ask her to stop, i'm thinking too much about when to ask and my timing is not correct. please if you have any advice or tips, i'd really appreciate you input. thank you. |

Karen, I wish I had a magic answer for your question Karen. Being aware of the timing issue is important. Remember the less cues you use to stop the easier it will be to get the timing correct. So if you say ( say whoa, take your legs off, put your legs forward, and pull a little bit, and sit back ) that is five things that you have to time in order to get the stop correct. So first thing make sure you are sitting back on the way down to stop and you just eliminated one of the things that you have to time in order to stop. Try to make the leg cues more subtle thus eliminating allot of leg cue. Basically I am saying the less cues you use the easier it will be. The only other advice I have is stop allot, allot, allot.
