kicking at leg/rundowns
New to this, but first, I want to say how great I feel these videos are - I've seen major improvements since I purchased these videos. You may have answered this before, but how do you discipline a horse when they kick up at your leg, particularly in the lead change? I'm trying to not jab with my spur, but I still find I will get a kick up on occasion. Am I being to subtle (i.e. tickling), not subtle enough? Also, I'm working on my rundowns by bringing the horse to the trot and back to me at the end of the rundown. I'm finding this is a great way to work on getting my horse more relaxed in the rundowns. I'm working the "whoa" from the trot as I haven't any stopping ground right now, and won't have until spring dries out. Question is, can I over do that kind of work. Thanks, will look forward to your new video when released. Ila |

Re: kicking at leg/rundowns
ILA, Usually what I do is if I feel the horse kick I will push very very very hard with my spur and push the horse up into the bridle. Then maybe and again maybe if I was not getting my point accross after I had pushed the horse up in the bridle I would take my leg off and kick and push again hard one more time. As far a being to subtle most likly not. Probably just a phase that this horse is going through. No you can not overdue the excercise that you are doing. Dean Brown |
