hopping or jumping through the turn around
What would you say about a horse who is hopping or jumping through his turn around. What I mean is the front end is hopping over. It isnt all the time sometimes its just crossing over and then he will start hopping. Is it more to do with the horses athletic abilities, maybe a little weak or unfit or his confirmation or just a learned behavior. I think I recall you or someone else mentioning this problem. What should I do here. If he hops and I say whoa and ask again is that a reward? Or keep asking to spin and when he stops hopping ask him to whoa and let him rest? |

Re: hopping or jumping through the turn around
The problem is most likely a learned behavior. If the horse is not soft enough in the face in the spin it can cause the horse to hop. You are correct try not to stop your horse in the spin unless the the horse is not hopping. Dean Brown |

You are bottleing him up in the spin, put as little bit pressure on his face as possible while focusing more on body position, I can spin my mare without reins. |

Andrew, So how is the horse supposed to get broke to bit pressure in the turn? I can take my old brood mares and spin them without reins, does not mean they are broke. Dean Brown |
