young horse out of balance

I have 18 rides on my colt. When we started at the beginning of the month he was pretty even. Even meaning his butt and withers about the same height. He is not I would guess about 6 inchs higer in the rear. I know he will even out again pretty quick. I had read its not good to ride them if they are 4 or more inches out of balance. What do you normally do at this stage of game? I was thinking of just putting him back on the lunge line saddled up until he evens out a little more again.

Also maybe we can fix a problem on the ground while he is out of riding comission. In my opinion he has been doing really well. Just lately here he seems to be fightingi the bit a little. He has great head cariage. Just when I ask for a turn he and we are moving forward he wants to open his mouth twist his head and then he gives and we turn and he turns well.

If I twist a little in saddle and use a little outside leg pressing thigh and knee into him he will turn with out any rein cues. I been using outside rein on him along with inside direct rein.

He is backing pretty good. I say back and take a little weight out of my seat and he takes three steps back without making any contact to his mouth.

He has learned what whoa means.

So I am just lookig for ideas on what to work on, on the ground until his fron end catches up.

Bitted up lightly. Under the stirrups and behind the cantle, and lounge him. Do not start off too tight. This should help his face when you start ridding him and go to turn.
