Riders own weight
We were out on road trip and we got to discussing a riders weight and how it effects the young horse when you are trying to train. It has to be harder for the horse to learn a something such as a turn around with a much heavier rider. I'm 6'4 around 225 pounds. I know places that rent horses and put a weight limit on the riders. Would it be better being a large rider to possibly work more on physical training and building the horse up before asking the horse to learn such maneuvers under that kind of weight? Is 225 too much for the young horse to carry? I heard they can handle about 15% of their own body weight. |

John, Do not worry about your height or your weight. Your horse is a good size and you will be fine. I know that your horse will be fine learning its manuevers. Without mentioning names I know some top riders that would be over your scale. Dean Brown |

Thank you Dean, I needed to hear that. I can't wait to get your training series. I'm still bidding. |
