Hackamore
Hi Dean, I am thinking about purchasing your reining video, and I am wondering if the video addresses training a horse for reining in the hackamore/bosal. Do you consider this method of control appropriate for reining, or should I move this young horse into the bit for this? She is stopping good now, off my leg and seat. She is also very soft and reponsive in the bosal, meaning that she is bending, tucking, pivoting and doing her turn arounds with no resistance. Just curious. Thanks

Re: Hackamore
I will show a three year old in a hackmore sometimes. But all our triaining is done in a snaffel or a Bridle. I am not saying it can not be done in a hackmore but I do know when a horse decieds that they want to pull on you in a hackmore there is not allot that you can do about it. For the horses I want to show in one I will introduce the hackmore after my ride just walking the horse around and just teaching the horse to give to some light pressure in it. I will just use it enought so the horse understands it and will operate in it. I will not do so much that the horse learns that he/she can pull on it. Dean Brown |
