Message: There have been a great deal of hunts on the east coast as you say. However, we have traveled throughout the country. Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, Louisiana, Florida, Missouri, Ohio just to name the ones I have attended. Most of those hunts were attended by "east coasters" with a few of the locals. Our main hunter base is east of the Mississippi so that is why a lot of the events are on the east side of the USA. We try to spread them around to catch everyone, all our clubs and Independents. That is why we were trying Antlers. You saw what happened. Under 10 entries 5 weeks before the event. You just can't justify spending large amounts of FMDAC money for 8 or 9 entries hoping that some "walk on's" will show up. UNQUOTE

Dave; Your statement is well said and I agree with you 100%.
We tested having two conventions/hunts per year and have been spreading them throughout the country for 5-6 years now.
We gave it a good try.
The western states all had very good events but attendance was always low where ever we went and this was way before the economy declined. Now with the oil loonies telling us they will raise the price of gas to $4:00 per gallon by Memorial Day and the precious metals prices even some of the east coast hunts will probably have a low attendance. Gone are the days of 500 plus members at the convention/hunts.
I feel that Atlantic City wants only the big spending organizations with hundreds of guests showing up,so they are out of the question.
Here in the Pittsburgh/Butler,PA area we had a low attendance also, which tells me that we should concentrate on the coastal cities and the cities near the casinos.
I believe that going back to the one a year convention is in the best interests of the organization. We can step back, regroup and plan for the future when this economy recovers.
I would suggest moving the convention/hunt out west perhaps once every three years or five years. I also think we should stay at one convention a year. I do know that two conventions/hunts are too costly for this organization unless we can draw 400 plus entries.

You said:(Most of those hunts were attended by "east coasters" with a few of the locals.)
I AM HAPPY THAT SOMEONE FINALLY HAD THE GUTS TO PLACE THAT STATEMENT IN PRINT. It has been in my thoughts and many others thoughts for many years.
Thank you for saying that
